4 POWERFUL REASONS YOU SHOULD WRITE THINGS DOWN.

Usually when people see my planner, they have one of two reactions. They are either fascinated with the decor or they look bewildered.

One person even asked “So, don’t you own a cell phone? Why would you waste your time doing all of that when you can just add your tasks to your phone?”

In 2018, I can definitely understand why most people would assume writing things down is a waste of time. It is quicker to put items in your phone and don’t get it twisted, many times if speed is an issue I will add items to my notes or my calendar.

But there are benefits to writing things down. And I wanted to share 4 of those reasons with you, so pick up your favorite notebook and write these down. ☺️

1.) WRITING HELPS YOU HAVE A BETTER CONNECTION WITH YOUR GOALS VALUES AND EMOTIONS

Vividly describing your goals in written form is strongly associated with goal success. People who very vividly describe or picture their goals are anywhere from 1.2 to 1.4 times more likely to successfully accomplish them than people who don’t.

I set 5 business goals at the beginning of the year, and I’ve accomplished 3 out of the 5 goals (and I still have a little time left). I believe that writing down my goals and actively breaking them down into manageable steps was a big factor in getting them done.

Take a moment and write it all down. Your feelings, your goals, your tasks and all of the reasons you are grateful.

The universe will reward you.

2.) BRAIN DUMPS

I started free writing a couple of months ago and it is such a stress reliever!

If you find yourself on information overload or lacking focus, pull out a sheet of paper and start writing. The ultimate goal of the brain dump is to increase creativity and productivity. It also helps you to release your thoughts and ultimately gives you a smarter brain.

3.) IT KEEPS YOU CREATIVE

There’s nothing quite like writing down a startup idea in the middle of a blank page and then branching out with a flurry of ideas.

I can be work obsessed and unimaginative. A small part of me wants to keep things in my phone because it’s faster. But I am more creative when I write, draw, and use stickers.

You will see the world differently. There’s nothing quite like writing down an idea and letting your mind run wild with different ways to make it happen.

4.) IT HELPS YOU SELF-EVALUATE

There’s nothing quite as powerful as writing down your thoughts and then going back to reflect on them.

If they are happy thoughts, its a great memory. If they are sad thoughts, they will show you how much you have grown and learned. If they are angry thoughts, you can realize when you may have overreacted and adjust future behavior.

As you write your notes you are essentially having a dialogue with yourself.

It’s life-changing.

There are so many benefits to “writing it down”. I recently did a video where I shared my current planning and journaling system.

If you are interested, I’ve linked it below. Happy Writing.

Until next time,
